Our Year 1 Support Package

The first year in your new pub will be the most challenging as you are getting to grips with building your business and managing all your overheads and cash flow effectively.

To ensure you have every chance of success we provide you with an enhanced package of support during this period.

The Pre-change Meeting

Before you take over the pub your area manager will hold a detailed meeting with you to give you all the information you need to know before you take on your business. This will help ensure that the change is as smooth as possible.

Open Book Accountancy and Stocktaking Service

Business controls are critical during the first 12 months so we require you to use our approved accountancy and stocktaking services. The information they produce is shared with us so we can support you in developing and managing your business.

During months 1 to 3 you will have a monthly meeting which will review a prepared profit and loss account, overheads analysis, your balance sheet and schedule of drawings. For the rest of the first year these accounts and meetings are prepared and held on a quarterly basis. At the end of the first year you are free to decide which accountancy and stocktaking services you use. 

Area Manager Support

Your Area Manager is your main point of contact and will visit you frequently throughout your first year to help you with all aspects of your business. These visits begin on your first day and continue fortnightly for the first three months to make sure you have everything you need while you settle in. Six months after you start we will conduct a full business review to assess how the business is progressing and agree any further support required.

Area Surveyor Support

You will also have an Area Surveyor whose role is to ensure that any repairs and maintenance issues that are the responsibility of Hall and Woodhouse are carried out effectively. During your first 12 weeks your Area Surveyor will carry out an inspection of the property with you. Your Area Surveyor will also conduct an annual inspection of your property thereafter to ensure we keep up to speed with the condition of our pubs.

Mystery Customers

After your first four months we will organise for a mystery customer to visit your business. We will then feedback findings to help you further exploit your strengths and address any weaknesses.

Utilities

Your energy bills form a significant part of your overheads and we are committed to helping you control these costs. Our nominated energy consultants, Nationwide Energy, will visit you on your first day to offer you advice on the best deal available for your business. They will also help you find the old supplier for your business and close any existing accounts. You are under no obligation to use this service which is free (like all brokers Nationwide Energy earn a fee from the supplier if they arrange your energy contract).
