New publican at the helm: Anna Doyle takes the wheel of The Yachtsman Pub in Hamworthy

Anna brings over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry to her new role, including two decades running our nearby Business Partnership pub, The Lord Nelson on Poole Quay. Anna is also the co-founder of Poole Quay Events, where she’s well-versed in delivering memorable experiences for locals.

The Yachtsman has been part of our managed pub estate since 1945, and recently transitioned to a Business Partnership pub. The move allows greater flexibility in terms of The Yachtsman’s offering, and aligns seamlessly with Anna’s creative approach to running a community-focussed pub with a varied events programme.

Commenting on her new role, Anna said “I’m thrilled to bring my experience and energy to The Yachtsman and make it a welcoming space for everyone in the community including families, dog owners, regulars, and new faces alike. The support from locals since I opened the doors has been amazing. We’ve got some great events planned, and I can’t wait to see the garden filled and the pub buzzing.”

Since taking over The Yachtsman in mid-May, Anna has already introduced a programme of themed and special deal nights, including a Friday ‘Fish & Fizz’ night with a family-friendly disco, Saturday steak nights with live music, and Sunday roasts accompanied by a live band. The pub now also serves breakfast on Fridays to Sundays and has introduced a new all-day menu focussed on homemade British dishes, using local produce where possible. A lunchtime sandwich menu is also available.

Anna has led a series of refurbishments in partnership with us to enhance the pub's offering. The improvement work has included upgrading the kitchen, creating a more open plan layout, and refreshing some of the interior areas. Further investment is also being made in the outdoor area to better accommodate events. A Remembrance Day mural is in development in collaboration with local artist Angi Corrall, complete with bench seating and spotlights.

Discussing her upcoming plans for the pub, Anna said “We’ll soon be introducing a dedicated dog menu and dog-friendly facilities, and a full calendar of events. Looking ahead to autumn and winter, we’ve got some exciting seasonal celebrations in the works, including an Oktoberfest and a Winter Wonderland inspired event.”

The Yachtsman is run by a team of 18 and led by General Manager Pete Boxell. Pete previously worked alongside Anna for over two years at The Lord Nelson before joining her at The Yachtsman.

The Yachtsman in Hamworthy is open seven days a week from:
• 11am until 11pm Mondays to Saturdays
• 11am until 10.30pm on Sundays
